White Reflector Films Explained: Types, Custom Cutting, Adhesive Backing & More

What Is a White Reflector Film?

If you’ve ever wondered why two LED panels with identical chips can produce completely different results, the answer is often hiding in plain sight, hiding behind the LEDs. The reflector film at the back of an LED assembly is one of the most impactful components in any lighting system, yet it’s one of the least talked about.

A white reflector film is a high-reflectivity polymer sheet placed behind or around light sources, typically LEDs, to capture and redirect light that would otherwise be lost. Instead of being absorbed into the housing or scattered in the wrong direction, that backward-emitted light gets bounced back toward the output surface.

The result? More usable light from the same amount of energy, higher luminaire efficiency, better uniformity, and lower power consumption, without touching the LED itself.

The Different Types of Reflector Films

PET Reflector Films: The Versatile Workhorse

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) reflector films are the most widely used option across general LED lighting, display backlights, and signage. They’re lightweight, dimensionally stable, and available in a range of thicknesses:

Reflex100 (100μm) — Ultra-thin, ideal for compact assemblies.

Reflex150 & Reflex188 — Mid-range options for edge-lit panels and slim backlight units.

Reflex225 — A popular choice for direct-lit LED panels.

Reflex300 — Heavier-duty PET for more rigid assemblies.

Reflex500 PET — Features an embedded light-blocking membrane, essential in dual-sided or high-contrast applications.

Polycarbonate (PC) Reflector Films: Built for Heat and Shape

PC reflector films are thermoformable and perform reliably up to 140–150°C. Available in Reflex300PC, Reflex400PC, and Reflex500PC, these are ideal for high-power fixtures, automotive interior lighting, and applications where the reflector doubles as a structural element.

Through the thermoforming process, these films are heated to a pliable temperature and stretched over a specific mold to create complex, three-dimensional geometries. This allows the material to transition from a flat sheet into a precise shape such as a deep-draw parabolic cone or a contoured light housing without losing its reflective efficiency or structural integrity.

Because the PC substrate maintains high dimensional stability under thermal stress, the resulting components retain their exact curvature and light-directing properties even when subjected to the persistent heat of high-output LED arrays.

Adhesive-Backed Reflector Films

We offer two adhesive-backed variants that bond directly to your fixture housing — no mechanical fasteners needed:

  • Reflex225-A — Standard pressure-sensitive adhesive for moderate-temperature applications. The back adhesive can be used for both PET and PC.

Both can be cut to any shape you need, with adhesive pre-applied and protected by a release liner until assembly.

Scoring: Clean Bends Without Cracking

For thicker reflector films, getting a clean bend without cracking is a real challenge. Our scoring service creates a controlled partial cut along a defined line, acting as a precise hinge. This allows the film to fold cleanly at assembly — no heat forming, no special tooling on your end. Ideal for box-type luminaire housings, channel letters, and angled fixture geometries.

Custom Cutting: Your Drawing, Your Shape

Precision-slit white reflector film strips in narrow custom widths

No MOQ. No Mold Fee for Samples.

Send us a prototype? We’ll cut it. No minimum order quantities. No mold fees for sampling. Validate your design before committing to production — for production molds, the maximum tooling size is 1500mm.

Cut to Your Drawings or Samples

Submit your technical drawing or a physical sample, and we cut to match at tolerances of ±0.3mm.

Large Format Rolls

Our reflector films are available in wide-format rolls up to 1220mm wide, in lengths of 30m, 50m, or 100m — continuous, seamless, with no compromise in optical performance.

Precision Slitting

We slit down to a minimum width of 14mm, ready to use in LED strip channels, narrow panel frames, or custom ribbon reflectors.

The Real Cost of the Wrong Reflector

The reflector film is an active optical component, not a commodity. Its reflectance rate, surface characteristics, and dimensional accuracy directly affect your luminaire’s output. A lower-reflectance film might save pennies per unit, but forces your LEDs to work harder, shortening lifespan and increasing energy consumption. Getting it right means your product performs consistently from the first unit to the thousandth.
